IS there MRCP speciality certificate in Cardiology???
or at least it will be available in the near future
according to official MRCP website
A Specialty Certificate Examination is now a compulsory component of assessment for Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) for all UK trainees whose specialist training began in or after August 2007 and is in one of the following specialties:
Dermatology;
Endocrinology and Diabetes;
Gastroenterology,
Geriatric Medicine;
Infectious Diseases
Medical Oncology;
Nephrology;
Neurology;
Palliative Medicine;
Respiratory Medicine and Rheumatology.
i know it sucks to list such specialities and exclude cardiology
thnx in advance

guest4, could you give us a short overview of the KBA endocrinology exam? I would like to know how much in depth knowledge they require and how many questions, is the exam on the computer, do you have to go to UK to take the exam and how long do you need to prepare for this exam, etc???
Thank you so much for helping us.

thanks guest 09, sorry for the delayed Response was busy with work, I assume that you have already passed your full mrcp uk and is under endocrine subspeciaLty training,yes i just received my result and a passed the endocrine kba in first attempt.ok my advice is as follows
exam is really tough, it is aimed at a specialist level,study with a plan according to the rcp endo blue print,see rcp sce website.
the best book is ENDOCRINOLGY AND DIABETES BY PROF KARIM MEERAN AND AMIR SAM,READ IT COVER TO COVER AT LEAST THREE TO FOUR TIMES ,EACH LINE IS PRECIUOS AND WORTH LEARNING WELL AND REMEMBER DO DIABETES AND THYROID VERY WELL AS THEY ARE THE BULK OF THE EXAM AND IF ONE DOES POORLY THAN ONE DEFINATELY FAILS.there are images, graphs and bone density scans and biopsy slides to interpret as well as pictures of concerned anatomy such as neck in a patient with goitre.read endocrine pharmacology well as lots of questions on medications.
READ UPTO DATE NICE GUIDELINES ON COMMON TOPICS IN THE EXAM BLUEPRINT.
DO WEBSITE BOF ONEXAM HAS AN ENDOCRINE KBA SECTION.WHICH IS EASIER THAN THE EXAM HOWEVER,IS GOOD PRACTICE,
DEVELOPE GOOD COMPUTER PATIENCE AS THE EXAM IS 200 QUESTION COMPUTER BASED.
ALSO I DID THE AMERICAN ENDOCRINE BOARD PREP CALLED THE ESAP 2009.YOU CASN GET THAT BY CALLING THE AMERICAN ENDOCRINE SOCIETY.THIS IS REALY HIGH CLASS AND SAME STANDARD AS THRCP ENDO EXAM QUESTIONS ALTHOUGH RCP EXAM CHECKS MORE BASIC AND SO CALLED BENCH ENDOCRINOLOGY,FOR EXAMPLE THE MAY ASK YOU SUBCELLUALR RECEPTOR AND LIGAND LEVEL QUESTIONS.usual data interpretation is always present also ,for example they may ask you to differntiate between a case of SIADH VS CEREBRAL SALT WASTING SYNDROME...
i hope this helps ,this is a wonderfull exam and prestigious degree to have after the mrcp,it can really propel your career forward and distinguish you among your peers.
best of luck and cheers........
