Topic:
Some people say that education system is the only critical factor to development of a country. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Ans:
Education plays a vital role in progress of a nation. However, some people tend to overplay the role of education or undermine the role of other factors in a nation’s success.
Mere presence of a strong education system does not imply its effective and efficient utilization. Firstly, application of the concepts learnt in education are critical to achieve the desired results. For example : an engineer cannot do the work of a doctor. Secondly, lack of education does not imply that a person cannot contribute to the society. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft was a college drop out, however his aptitude and will power helped him into build one of the world’s largest player in information technology. Thirdly, willingness of people to learn is essential to avail the benefits of education mechanism. If people in a country are struggling to earn their living, education does not necessarily come up as top priority for people.
Nevertheless, the contribution of an education system cannot be ignored. It provides the core foundation which can be leveraged to contribute to development. Firstly, the concepts learnt in school are used by people throughout their life. A person may be an accountant, still his knowledge of social science helps him in understanding and contributing towards the political system. Secondly, the studies develop the skill set a person may require for specialized jobs such as of a scientist or a doctor. Thirdly, considering the scale of operations education systems generate large sum of money for the economy. For instance: USA universities attract a large number of students from across the globe and contributes billions of dollar in tax revenues to the government.
I strongly believe, that an education system’s contribution to society’s development depends to a large extent on how it is leveraged. I will conclude by stating that an education system is critical to a nation’s growth but cannot be considered as the only factor.
