|
|
I am planning to appear in June/July 2010.
Anyone else appearing in that time line please share your preparation strategy.
My plan:
1- Tim Hall
2- Pastest online course
3- Practice on patients
4- Ealing Paces course now
5- Pastest Paces course before the exam
Do you think the above are enough or also read the following highly recommended books:
1- Cases for Paces by Stephen Hoole
2- success in Paces by Philip Kelly and McDonald
Please those who have passed and those who are preparing share their opinions.

I am going for paces in march.
I have read both volumes of ryder/mir, and bits from tim hall.
success in paces by phillip kelly is good. I haven't read it all but some parts are worth going through.
Haven't heard of stephen hoole.
Of course practicing on patients is a must.

macleod and hutchison are medical student level books
read the paces clinical methods book - this also has useful mnemonics for history and communication and gives good guidelines for paces level history and examination

I have heard that from 2011 there will be changes in PACES pass/fail criteria. Now you need an overall pass even if you have a fail in one station.
But with the new changes a candidate will have to pass each station and even if they score more than pass marks and fail one station, they will fail.
Anyone have any comments regarding this?

| what i heard is different. it is not a question of passing each station separately. they are going to change in such a way that you have to pass each of the 7 criteria of marking like technique of examination, clinical findings , welfare etc. they will never make it easy or more difficult but try to filter those people who somehow slip through by scoring more in some criteria despite doing badly in some other

|
|
I got a 45 yo woman complaining of a mass in right side between the neck and shoulder and some tingling and numbness in the right 4th and 5th fingers.
On examination it was a hard mass, diffuse, no edges, like it was coming out of the right lung apex.
The patient had no symptoms (fever wt loss, cough, haemoptysis, night sweats) whatsoever.
On examination of the hand there was ulnar nerve signs.
One candidate said that they felt a bruit on the neck mass.
Any guesses as to the diagnosis???
