I have had nothing but problems with the mirena IUD. my biggest concern is weight gain, my face isnt normal and clear as it used to be, i am very irritable and grumpy towards the world!! I dont fit in any of my clothes i wore before I had the mirena iud fitted. its very depressing! when i had it fitted i asked the dr if i was going to gain weight, she said no! and now i regret having the mirena IUD.!!! im not happy with my body figure as I did never look like a balloon except for when i was pregnant i was the weight i am at now! im having this thing removed ASAP!

my husband doesnt like B/C he doesnt believe in it, but we both decided no kids for awhile, he wont let me take anything else to prevent pregnancy and he doesnt like condoms!! what should we do? and lets not say no sex lmao.

Can someone relate to my problem? please help lol

PostPosted: Thu May 15, 2008 12:35 am    Post subject: mirena SUCKS

My Goddness, when I read all the posts about Mirena, I start realizing how I was ignoring all the signs my body was giving me after Mirena was fitted. After I delivered my baby, I was quite fast back to my pre-pregnancy weight and I was feeling great... until the day I start using Mirena IUD. I gained so much weight, jumped literally in 4 months from size 14 to 18! Even some of the 18's did not feet me anymore because my breasts grew so much. I was blaming this on so many factors, hormons, this and that. All blood tests, thyroid, etc did not show any problems. and finally TODAY I realized this is all evil Mirena! When I read blogs of other women having same situation, I was so shocked to see that Mirena truly makes you F A T! I was living happily in my size 14, sometimes 12, and it suited me just fine, until I gained so much weight I am even horrified to take picutres of myself, because I look like a balloon. I even eat less than ever before, excercise, drink enough water and all those things, and I still don't loose a pound. I am taking the [bad stuff (censored)] out this Friday!!!! To hell with the contraception like that. I am pissed at my doctor who told me that Mirena does not cause ANY weight gain AT ALL of whatsoever.

PostPosted: Thu May 15, 2008 7:46 am    Post subject: Removing the Mirena

I have had my Mirena IUD for 3 years. I never could find the strings. I went to my doctor about it and she couldn't find them either. She recommended a. leaving the mirena in with ultra sounds or b. having it removed thru a hysteroctopy - which would require anestesia in a surgery room. The doctor who put the IUD in cut the strings to 1 cm. - I think this is too short - and I don't think that I should be responsible for paying for such a costly procedure. I was told the removal would be simple when I had the IUD placed. However, I decided to leave the IUD in since finding all this out and have experienced weight gain, oily skin, and acne. I used proactive to get rid of the acne and it has kept it under control, but my stomach looks like I am 3 months pregnant and my appetite is outrageous. I want to get the IUD removed, but don't want to have to go thru surgery to do it. Has anyone had this experience and had success in having the IUD removed without surgery? And, if so, what should I do? PS. I wouldn't recommend anyone ever get an IUD. At first, I thought it would be a convenient way to prevent pregnancy, but it is definately not worth it. I have had bad stomach pains since getting the Mirena and do not have any sex drive nor do I enjoy sex as much due to the pain.

i had the mirena for five years and went back constantly to ask for it to be removed only to be told that it was not the source of my (now) three stone weight gain. i had it removed because the 5 yrs were up and i feel much better already although i have not had a period now for seven weeks. my sex drive seems to be returning but i am too scared to use condom s before my periods get back to normal in case i don't know i'm pregnant, does anyone know when your cycle gets back to normal? we have used condoms just twice in 6 weeks - i'm not sure whether to be worried or not....

PostPosted: Sun Jun 01, 2008 6:22 am    Post subject: TWO Merinas in my body

Hi everyone,

I had a Merina inserted in May 2006 - we NOW know that at the time of insertion it perforated the uterine wall and is somewhere in my abdomen - it shows up on x-ray, but the surgeon couldn't find it during a laporoscopy.

He has inserted a SECOND one in the uterus, so effectively I have two now. I have also suffered weight gain, which is driving me nuts.

The Doctors don't want to do the surgery to remove the stray one - they say the risks are higher than having it in my body somewhere. I don't know WHAT to do, I am devastated when I read all the problems people are having.

Right now I want them BOTH out. I am seeing a lawyer on Monday, this has got to stop. Has anyone else had TWO?

Robyn find another OBGYN that will remove them both! They do not have that choice, you do! It's your own body![/quote]

PostPosted: Mon Jun 02, 2008 8:29 am    Post subject: Mirena taken out!

I had mirena for about 3 years. Got it taken out a week ago (have lost 2 pds already... but it could be just my daily fluctuation in weight). So glad I got it taken out! I have gained weight steadily since getting it in (about 30pds)! My dr kept telling me to just exercise more. Now she is saying that my weight gain may have been from mirena who knows. I'm just glad it is out. I'll keep you posted on what happens! Has anyone else gotten it taken out and seen any weight loss?

Thanks!

PostPosted: Thu Jun 12, 2008 2:34 pm    Post subject: Update

I got a second opinion on Wednesday. She removed the second IUD that had been inserted on May 28. On Monday I am having a hysterectomy and the other IUD lost in my abdomen will also be removed at the same time.

Unfortunately, I will not abe able to have the easy vaginal hysterectomy, as they will have to cut me to be able to put a hand in to locate and remove the lost IUD.

With two in my body, the fluid retention was horrendous. It is subsiding since I had one removed.

The specialist I saw on Wednesday says she removes 1 out of every 10 she inserts due to side effects.

Will post back when I have recovered from the hysterectomy, and let you know the state of my overall health!

I have had my mirena since May of 2007. The doctor tole me that the cramping would only last for a couple of days. I have been cramping on and off for the past year. The cramping is worse right before my period (which I was told would stop). My period also last longer and is heavier on the mirena than regular bcp. I have not experienced and abmormal weight gain, but have acne like I did in highschool and oily skin worse than ever before. Has anyone else ever had problems with the cramping? Needless to say I am having my mirena taken out this week Very Happy

PostPosted: Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:08 am    Post subject: Mirena, weight gain & acne

I'm so glad I found this site & all of the postings about Mirena side effects. I've been trying to convince myself that the weight gain, abdominal swelling, oily skin & acne were being caused by something else. After having my 3rd child back in February, I quickly lost all of my pregnancy weight...& then some. In April, I had Mirena inserted because I thought it would be a great, convenient alternative to the usual birth control pills. Apparently, though, I also fall into that small percentage of women who have these annoying side effects. I've gained all the weight back that I had lost so quickly after childbirth...& my appetite won't die. It has all been just so frustrating! Anyway...no more excuses...the Mirena has to be the common link to all of these problems. I'm calling my doctor first thing in the morning to make an appointment to have it removed. Guess all of these side effects are our bodies' way of telling us this form of contraception isn't for us. Wish me luck!

hi, i had my iud in for 2 yrs. Everything was great until I wanted it removed. I went to get it out twice but my doc. could not find the string. I had ultrasounds to see if it was in place and it was there but could not reach it..It took a hour and a half and the pain was so rough..The iud had moved out of place and turned sideways....I cramped alot but the bleeding was very light..My doc. said that my peroid should return in two to 6 weeks....

I wanted to have my Mirena removed but when I went to my "simple dr. office removal", they couldn't find it. They tried to use "the hook" for "rare times" when they have problems with the removal (OUCH!) but STILL couldn't get it. They sent me for an ultrasound the next day and they STILL couldn't see it. So, they did a vagina ultrasound and then an x-ray where they could see the Mirena. SOOO, in short....I went in for a hysteroscopy and ended up with 3 incisions in my abdomen--1 for a laproscopy, 1 to remove a large cyst (due to the Mirena...I have never had a cyst before in my LIFE and I'm 37), and 1 to remove the IUD. THis thing has been nothing but a nightmare. Is there a class action lawsuit that anyone knows of? I would NEVER have done ANY of this if I would have thought this could ever happen....my email is:

After I had my baby I started losing weight with breast feeding. Until I got the mirena inserted. First I didn't know it would decrease my milk supply, which ended up causing me not to be able to breast fed. Then I started gaining weight like crazy & having this unsatisfying appetite. I've gained over 30lbs now and I'm really miserable! After reading all your posts I'm definitely getting the mirena removed asap! Thanks
