| Answer: (a, b, c) The presenting symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy may be so vague that the physician should always consider the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy in the differential diagnosis of pelvic pain. The lower abdominal pain is usually unilateral; however, it may be bilateral or generalized. The patient may also present with vaginal bleeding or spotting and a delayed or missed menstrual period. Nonspecific symptoms of pregnancy may also exist. Rectal bleeding is not usually an associated symptom.
