I do agree with most of the points raised by the previous writer. I need also mention that I am a Nigerian as well, so can appreciate your thoughts to relocate.
I would like to add that a risk assessment of the pros and cons of your decision be made, so at least you know what the likely possibilities are. Haven been in the UK myself for a few years now, I can confidently divide the out come into 2 major categories. Now there is the risk that you come over and things go horribly wrong as highlighted by the previous writer. There is also the chance that you get a job a few months after your arrival... I would say the subspecialty you decide to work would determine your chances of getting a job sooner or later. I personally feel Psychiatry is a lot easier to get Locum jobs and trust grade jobs, in comparison to other specialties.....it depends on your willingness to consider that specialty as a way out, if your preference would have otherwise been some other specialty.
I think you also have to consider the duration left on your visa on arrival , as that would be vital in deciding how much of time you have got to meet the conditions for an extension....I am certainly assuming and hoping that you pass plab 2 on first sitting, otherwise you probably have got your boat sinking already.
I feel you need to decide on your ability to cope with the realities of a worse case scenario. It is always better to view things from that perspective...if you think you can, then I would say give it a go.....but bear in mind that this would be a decision just for the money.

Think long and hard, even if u are able to secure your HSMP,u r yet to pass PLAB 2,dat is a significant disadvantage.i am a Nigerian myself and things are quiet uncertain now.Locum jobs are under significant risks under the current changes to how the NHS operates and if u get into a trust job you r in a dead end wit no career progression and no financial reward bcos u will use all your salary(£2200/month max) for rent, food and all sorts of tax's. You wont even av any left to send home. If u have kids and your wife working, then u will be in serious "SHIT" forgive my language.
Think long and hard, people will only tell u the good bits and leave out the bad ones, its only when u get in that u will realise what you have put yourself into.Things in nigeria r terrible for Dr's and everyone i understand, look for other places to go to ,Canada,USA,Australia etc. UK is extremely tricky for new entrants now TRUST me cos am in the system already. The problem is not getting in,but extending your visa after the 1st 2yrs will be the crucial stage.if u dont score enough points,u will be asked to leave with your family and u r back to square 1 in Nigeria and pple u left behind would have gone past you.U will be back to doing PP for N45,000 - N80,000/month.
MY BROTHER THINK LONG AND HARD AND B HONEST WIT YOURSELF FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR WIFE AND KIDS.
i am planning to mwrite my PLAB 1 in sept and at the same time awaiting the result of my HSMP application. i would like to know how easy it is to get a locum job and the range of renumeration. i am not planning to specialise now esp. as it is no longer allowed for immigrants that came in thru HSMP. i hope i am making the right choice in life(I am already in my 3rd year of community medicine training in Nigeria!)

Dear Samruddi,

In India they donot recognise overseas PG degrees . You cannot do in the U.K . How ever, you can do in Russia but academical point of view it is not acceptable in ndian dental colleges too. It is up to you what you want .
In BDS you can make lots of money by doing scaling, filling, root canal. so I suggest you sit on your ass and study for P.G in India . Do not waste your valuable time and money coming here and lending your ass to British dick.

Thanks
